Team Defense Projections – Week 10

Below are our projected Team Defensive Fantasy Points (based on ESPN Standard Scoring) for Week 10 of the 2017 NFL Season. These projections are from a model that takes into account a number of variables including team and player offensive and defensive metrics, situational factors in the game (such as, indoors or outdoors, divisional game, days of rest, and more), and lastly overall team rating measured by statistics such as our Elo Ratings.

Greetings and welcome to Week 10 as the Cardinals and Seahawks kickoff tonight in what is sure to be the season’s most contrasting color rush on the Crayola scale. A few things of note this week – the Jaguars have officially graduated from ‘Must Start’ to ‘Matchup-Proof’, Houston and Denver have entered weekly stream-against territory, and the Seahawks are on my “Not Sold” list in the desert against Arizona. Thursday nights have been (wonderfully) wonky this season, and something about those lime green jerseys gives me a bad feeling… Here’s who we’re rolling with this week:

Must Starts:

PIT @ IND (Proj: 7.0 pts)

DET vs CLE (Proj: 12.7 pts)

LAR vs HOU(Proj: 6.7 pts)

Streamers I Like:

NE @ DEN (Proj: 10.7 pts) : If his name alone doesn’t do it for you, Brock Osweiler looked horrendous in his second debut with the Broncos, and my predicted AFC Champions after Week 2 are staring at a potential 5 game losing streak this week against the defending Champs. Brocktober has come to a close and Denver is suddenly a weekly stream-against offense. As for New England, the Patriots have allowed fewer than 17 points in their last four games and are coming off their bye week. This is a great streaming option this week.

TEN vs CIN (Proj: 12.3 pts) Ok, Tennessee continues to find its way on this list, yet continues to throw out average to sub par weeks of fantasy scoring. So naturally, we’re rolling with them again at home against the turnover prone Bengals. In their last four games, the Titans have forced nine turnovers while allowing opponents an average of just under 14 points per game. These are solid “real football” statistics, and although they haven’t equated to any blow-up fantasy scores that could win you a matchup, I think they make for a quality play again this week. Who knows, that trend of snoozer D/ST scoring is bound to break one of these weeks…

NYJ @ TB (Proj: 3.8 pts) It’s time to show the 4-5 Jets some love this week as they face the failing Buccaneers who have allegedly ceased their season. With Jameis Winston sidelined and Mike Evans suspended, I smell a classic 3-5 pick game out of Ryan Fitzpatrick, even in a vengeance match with his former team in the Jets. For no other reason than this, and the fact that the Jets D/ST is only owned in 7.7% of ESPN leagues, consider them a suitable streamer in Week 10. Don’t let the Model’s measly 3.8 point projection (lowest of the week) scare you away. Just remember one thing – shooters shoot.

Not Sold:

CAR vs MIA (Proj: 8.0 pts)

SEA @ AZ (Proj: 10.7 pts)

MIN @ WSH (Proj: 4.9 pts)
