Welcome back for week 2 of the Model 284 Friday Fantasy Preview. If you are looking for a blend of numbers and subjectivity to help guide your lineup, then this is the right place for you.
Week 2 Studs
Jameis Winston: Exciting young QB, two-headed speed/size WR combo, and a week and a half to prepare for a home game? The Bucs situation is just about as good as it gets. On top of that, they may have to rely more heavily on the pass, as they will match up with a Chicago defense that held the usually-dominant Falcons ground game to 2.8 yards/carry last week. Our QB Model projects Famous Jameis with a QB9 finish this week.
Larry Fitzgerald: Even as he ages, old man Fitz continues to have some of the best hands in the league. He caught 7 balls last week, and as long as the David Johnson is out of the lineup, he is likely to match that number almost every week. The Colts looked pathetic in Week 1, and with Vontae Davis’s groin injury, the best they can hope to do is limit Fitz.
Brandin Cooks: Cooks and Brady will shake off their shocking week one loss and scorch a Saints defense that got lit up by Sam Bradford last week. Even without Edelman (and potentially Amendola), the Patriots offense is loaded, and the Saints Defense is a joke. They have given up 3.7 points above expectation to QBs over their last 7 games (5th-worst in the league). This one will be a shoot out (our model projects it at nearly 60 total points), and out of all the players I expect to reap the benefits, none of them have as high of a ceiling as Cooks.
Week 2 Duds
Carson Wentz & Alshon Jeffery: Wentz put together a good fantasy performance in Week 1 against the Redskins, but he will be going up against a much better defense this week in Kansas City. The Chiefs have had allowed the least fantasy points above expectation to both quarterbacks and wide receivers over the last 7 games, and they have been consistent in doing so. Our QB Model projects Wentz with a QB20 finish this week. If you have other options this week in fantasy go ahead and exercise those options.
T.Y. Hilton: Here is a full list of the Colts players I like in week 2: . The Colts are a disaster right now and I don’t want anything to do with them. End of story.
Saints RBs: I don’t hate the backfield as a whole, but any individual player isn’t a good start this week. Your guess is as good as mine as to how the touches will be split up in Week 2. However, it’s a pretty safe bet that no single player will get the overwhelming majority of the opportunities. All three backs are a touchdown-or-bust player this week, and that’s never a good player to bet on.
